One of the prominent Ikorodu sons that were recently inaugurated as member of the Governing Council, Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED), Dr Wole Ajifowoke, has stated that his primary focus is to work with the chairman and other members of the Council to provide quality educators for the state.
Ajifowoke, who was inaugurated alongside other members of the Council by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo – Olu on Tuesday described his appointment as an ‘icing on the cake’ of his teaching career while speaking with THE IMPACT earlier today, Thursday, August 27, 2020.
“I feel so excited and especially humbled to serve in that capacity. This is “the icing on the cake” of my civil service career”.
He thanked the Governor of the state and the Representative of Ikorodu Federal Constituency for the opportunity given to him to serve.
“Thanks to the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo – Olu, and the Representative of Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Hon. Babajimi Benson, for making it happen”.
Ajifowoke stated that the primary focus of his appointment is to work with the Chairman of the board and other members to produce quality teachers that would meet the international standard of teaching for the state.
“I am going to put in my very best and work with other great minds on the board so that the standard practice for Quality Assurance in the work product of AOCOED is in accordance with the global framework for producing quality educators.
“Also, my aim is to make Ikorodu division have quality representation on the board. This is to open the windows of opportunities to Ikorodu citizens who want to gain admission or get lecturing jobs if they are qualified and if there is vacancy for such irrespective of their political affiliation”, he added.
He said that members of the Governing Council will work as a team and will employ scientific approach and consultations with stakeholders across the state in discharging their duties.
“After the inauguration, we will roll up our sleeves and hit the ground running. It is going to be a well coordinated team work and most of our decisions on the job will be data driven with consistent consultations”, he assured.
Other illustrious Ikorodu indigenes that were also inaugurated on same day with Ajifowoke are Prof Adebayo Ninalowo, Chairman, Governing Council, Lagos State University (LASU), Prince Adesegun Ogunlewe, Member, Governing Council, Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH) and Mr Olaolu Mudashiru, Member, Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED).
Meanwhile, the Chairman, Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Adeshina, while speaking with our reporter, congratulated the appointees and thanked the Governor of Lagos for considering four illustrious sons of Ikorodu to be part of the privilege individuals saddled with the task of implementing its government’s educational policy in higher institutions.
“I say a big congratulations to the appointees into various boards of the state higher institutions. This is good for Ikorodu people because we now have our people managing higher institutions and this is a good opportunity for our students who have merits in their examinations and necessary qualifications to secure admission without any hindrance.
“I also want to thank the Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo – Olu, for considering four of Ikorodu sons for service in these capacities. This is a good thing for the generality of our people and I know that the appointees will not disappoint.
“They have what it takes to redirect our educational system, especially at the higher level, to a more productive and desired level”.
His counterpart in Imota Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Wasiu Agoro, while also speaking with THE IMPACT, equally thanked Governor Sanwo-Olu for the appointment of four indigenes of Ikorodu Division in the Governing Councils for the State owned tertiary institutions.
While congratulating the appointees whom he described as lkorodu ambassadors, the Council Chairman also charged them to use their positions in advancing Ikorodu and Lagos State in general.
Profile of Dr Wole Ajifowoke:
Oluwole Rafiu Ajifowoke was born in Isale-Eko, Lagos Island, in 1966. He attended Massey Square School, (1973 to 1979), Aroloya, Lagos Island, and Lagos City College, Yaba (1979-1984).
